In recognition of World Day for the End of Speciesism (27 August), PETA has plastered Tube carriages with 600 images bearing animals’ faces and the message, “We, too, feel pain, love, joy, and fear.”
What Is Speciesism?
The campaign is part of PETA’s efforts to challenge speciesism – the belief that, despite their extraordinary talents and abilities, all other animal species are inferior to humans.
Other animals feel every one of the emotions humans do, and yet they’re caged, tortured, and killed with impunity.
Speciesism is used to justify confining highly social primates alone to steel laboratory cages; killing billions of cows, chickens, pigs, and others for food; mutilating sheep for their wool; and whipping tigers to force them to perform tricks.
Where Can I See the Ads?
The messages will run on the Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, Jubilee, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, and Victoria lines as well as the Croydon Tramlink, Elizabeth line, Docklands Light Railway, and the London Overground.
Join Our Campaign – Help End Speciesism!
We all can combat speciesism by buying cosmetics that weren’t tested on animals, choosing vegan food and fashion, staying away from animal circuses, and otherwise rejecting the exploitation of animals.
